What is a "New" Motor Vehicle?
Under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act (the California "Lemon Law") a new motor vehicle is essentially defined as one that is bought or used primarily for personal, family, or household purposes.
Can a "Used" Vehicle Qualify Under the Lemon Law?
Yes. (So long as the sale was accompanied by a written warranty. This could be from the dealer or if it is still covered under the remaining portion of the manufacturer's.)
Can a "Business" Vehicle Qualify Under the Lemon Law in California?:
Yes. (So long as 5 or fewer vehicles are registered in the business name and the vehicle is under 10,000 pounds.)
What is a Buyer's Guide?
A Buyer's Guide is a form which, by law, must be posted on used cars telling the consumer whether the vehicle is being sold with a Warranty or "As Is."
Are Warranties Always 3 Years, 36,000 Miles?
No, check you warranty booklet (or check online) in many instances the warranty is longer -- or various components are covered for longer (for example your "power train" warranty may be much greater than 5 years or 50,000 miles.)
